Waking Up Alive documents the experience of a man who, suffering painful depression, decided to end his life by jumping off San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge (almost 99% of those who have done so have died). As he vaulted over the rail and saw the water rushing toward him, he suddenly realized that he desperately wanted to live. By some miracle, he survived and was left to manage the life he had so desperately sought to destroy.
